Mark Power
voice, vocal performance
Mark Power has been sharing his talents onstage for the entirety of his life. He credits his first solo at just three years old when he took the stage at his father’s church and sang, “Onward Christian Soldiers....”
His fascination with and commitment to voice continued through high school. At the end of his junior year, in 1982, he gave voices lessons to a severely pitch challenged sports buddy. Mark quickly found he had a knack for teaching when his friend made it into the school’s elite singing group that Mark himself was apart of.
Soon afterwards, Mark dedicated himself to refining these hybrid talents of both performing and teaching. Many years were dedicated to specializing in and professionally performing opera in Los Angeles, Seattle and New York. In addition to opera, he both performed and coached professionals in pop, music theater, rock, and R&B. He also applied his training to other platforms such as theater direction, television, public speaking, vocal therapy, and radio. Perhaps one of his favorite experiences was producing, directing and writing the book and lyrics for an eco-friendly children’s opera for his daughter’s elementary school, called, “The World Below.”
Mark also has a great deal of experience coaching those with physical disabilities that hinder (but do not remove) their ability to sing.
“While teaching special education classes, I found that children with disabilities advanced most successfully with a highly individualized approach. My students learned at an exponential rate when I viewed each of them uniquely, and taught them accordingly. all my students come to me with specific challenges and necessities that I mean to address and work through. Together, we work on identifying as many of these as possible.
If you work with me, I will treat you as the individual that you are. And if you are willing to focus and work, you WILL grow.”
