James Fernando Workshop

We are thrilled to offer this special opportunity to learn from Washington, DC based jazz pianist James Fernando! James will be performing at the Camden Opera House at 7:30pm on Saturday, October 5th. MCMA is hosting this educational workshop, which will be held in the Blue Cafe space at the Camden Opera House. ABOUT THE WORKSHOP: Every note you play sends a message to your listeners as well as to your collaborators. Understanding who is in charge of a musical situation and what you and your bandmates are telling each other are key elements to a successful musical partnership. Led by James Fernando and his trio, this workshop dives into the dynamics of playing with others. Open to all instruments and genres, preference for participation will be given to students who prepare a piece to play with others. Observers are very welcome to attend!

The workshop is free to music students and music educators, and open to all others. ABOUT JAMES FERNANDO: Hailed as a “prodigiously gifted composer and virtuoso pianist,” James Fernando creates music that lies at the intersection of jazz, classical, and electronic music. He relies on his genre-expanding original compositions to deliver thought provoking and exciting performances on some of the world’s most renowned stages. The Berklee College of Music graduate has five albums to his name and has collaborated with award winning artists internationally.
